Education, Training & Certifications:
He holds degrees from Wayland Baptist University (BA) and Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary (MDiv, & DMin). He has completed LifeWay’s Transitional Pastor Training and the Healthy Church Group Church Consultant Training, holds Myers Briggs Type Indicator certification, and is a certified church consultant with the Society of Church Consulting.

Ministry Experience:

Jim L. Wilson is Professor of Leadership Formation and Director of the Doctor of Ministry Program at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. Prior to joining the faculty in 2006, he served as a pastor for 26 years, 24 years as a full-time pastor in four different churches, and was a guest preacher in over 175 different churches and a frequent conference speaker.

Concurrent with his service at the seminary he has served as a transitional pastor for several churches in Southern California, was a guest preacher in an additional forty churches, a speaker in over twenty different training venues in the United States, Mexico, Canada and South Korea on leadership issues. He has also served as an expert on Pastoral Ministry for the legal system, a parliamentarian for Annual Meetings for three different State Conventions; and a consultant for churches ranging in size from 50 to 3000.

Dr. Wilson is an award-winning writer with hundreds of pieces in print and the author, co-author or contributor to more than a dozen books. His sermons and sermon illustrations appear in WordSearch and Logos Bible Software. His most recent books are 300 Illustrations for Preachers published by Lexham Press in August 2015 and Pastoral Ministry in the Real World: Loving, Teaching and Leading God’s People published by Weaver Book Company in January 2006.
